Who are the managers Celtic should consider as Neil Lennon’s replacement? That’s the question running through many supporters’ head at the moment. It’s not an easy one to answer. For starters, nobody apart from the Celtic board know the scope of ambition at the club. Due to lack of communication, we’re simply not sure if…
Jardim and Silva are great calls. I just can’t see the Celtic board approaching either man though.
I’d absolutely love Jardim at Celtic. His title-winning Monaco team were a joy to watch. Obviously, we wouldn’t have Mbappe, Bernardo Silva etc, but he’s a manager who generally makes really interesting signings.
Not Roy Keane then? Do we know for certain if NL is on a rolling contract or something longer? I tried to research this but found conflicting answers. Could the cost involved be a factor in his departure or otherwise?
I think for sure it’s a rolling contract
Thanks. Perhaps doubtful if the four “candidates” would settle for that. Football managers have little security as it is.
I remember being totally cheesed off when we were knocked out by Malmo by conceding 3 goals from corners over the 2 legs. Some things never change.
Sorry wrong topic was meant to be on defensive coaching,
I think every manager in the modern era has been on a rolling contract except Brendan Rodgers, which ended up paying off with the compensation from Leicester City.
I think we could commit to the right candidate if they had a long-term vision.
An interesting name to toss into the mix, Sean Maloney. He knows Celtic and has excellent credentials in coaching, and has been #2 to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national team for the past couple of years. What would be even sweeter, would be bringing in the pair of them as a package.
We’ve been speaking about him recently as well Phil. @euan.davidson wrote about him last month (here) and we have a video going up on the YouTube Channel this weekend.
He’s also close friends with John Kennedy.
Welcome to the forum!
Wasn`t Martinez linked with Celtic a few years ago, perhaps round about the Strachan time?
Yeah, after Strachan left
I would hazard a guess they already have a manager lined up who is currently employed until may. Cannot see any other reason NL still at club. The board will probably let us know in time for SB renewals and I would suspect it’s a high profile manager in order to get us fans back onside.
Eddie Howe is a no go. He has never played in Europe. Has no European Experience. At best from what you describe above he is in line for Strachan’s boy job. If he became the manager we will not only gifted Rangers this season but a number of titles in a row. Howe would be a bigger disaster than Brady Barnes and Mowbray combined.
Celtic have a number of great ex players who could together rebuild, rebrand and ensure we never see a mess like this again.
I would appoint Paul Lambert, Jackie Mac, Henrik, Scott Brown in some capacity; etc to come in as a coaching team to establish a new era for us. They have five years, no matter what.
Any money wasted on flashy Brendan’s part two is used to restructure us away from this selling Club mentality.
We don’t just have the issues of Pandemic to deal with. There is the fact Brexit was going to kill our current recruitment policy completely in the next 18 months. This part of reasoning behind some of last Summers big spend.
We collectively as fans proved last summer we are true financial brokers of Glasgow Celtic. It isn’t just Lenny out the door. It’s Lawwell. Desmond. And every other member of the board as well.
Instead calling for overpaid Premiership Diddies to be the boss. We need to be calling for something much bigger. Total Fan Ownership. Total control of our copyrights. A Pass to Paradise is for all of us who can’t get in the ground. Season tickets aren’t just for renewal but recognised as annual investment they are.
What a waste of potential this last decade has been. Part of that is our fault in the demands we make when coaching has went in to Crisis. Hail, Hail and it isnae keep the faith. It’s faithful thru, and thru at Paradise!
Well said and welcome to the forum!
Managers vision is irrelevant without the alignment of the board ,and financial clout ,which we have.
Just as the many transfer markets have shown us …WE can not conclude business ,in a quick professional way.
DD and Lawwell will be looking at the cheapest not best options for US…No forward thinking ,and if these gentlemen have a vision for Celtic Football Club ,they are not sharing it…

Great post Mark, cheers. Welcome to the forum.
Whoever is the new manager it must nit be Eddie Howe. He was a legend as they say as a player but tactically naïve as a manager. He got Bournemouth relegated remember. Roy Keane or Rafa would do me or maybe a combination of the two of them. Not Eddie Howe though. He is the English Lennon. Ask the Bournemouth supporters if you want any clarification.
Martin O`Neill? We could do a lot worse. Presumably he would want some assurances from the board similar to last time round regarding bringing in players.
