If nothing else, Rangers’ progression into the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League last night was a timely reminder for Celtic that there is so much work left in this season to achieve our goals. Yes, you may be screaming right now: “John, it doesn’t matter, it’s all about Celtic.” This isn’t inaccurate. Ange Postecoglou…
The 2angers have reached the tater stages in Europe over the past 3 Seasons by design not fluke.
The design was fairly straightforward.
Overspend and build a side capable of Competing in the Europa League.
The approach at Ayebrokes has been totally different than that of Celtic.
We have been operating a buy to sell policy at Celtic in order to maintain a healthy Financial Footing one eye has always been firmly fixed on the balance sheet whilst the resident Manager has been tasked with maintaining a healthy Team Sheet.
The down side to this approach is simple, you lose your best assets periodically and replace them with more potential whilst having a team in a constant state of flux.
At Ayebrokes the approach has been more reckless Financially with the mentality of throwing everything bar the Belfast Sink at it.
The upside to their approach has been simple.
A settled side with no one interested in buying their best assets as the price is generally set at ludicrous levels and supported by nothing more than delusion and or hope someone bites.
This has resulted in Celtic having an average Balance of £20m in the Bank at Year end ,success with Domestic Domination coupled with hit and miss success in Europe.
The 2angers meanwhile have posted £107m in losses between 2012 and 2021 despite converting a further £67m in Loans for Equity since 2018 where their European revival began meaning £174m has been chucked at wining 1 Domestic Title coupled with 4 decent outings in the Europa League.
If they fail to win a single Trophy this Season then there will be massive ramifications at Ayebrokes this Summer.
Celtic meanwhile will continue now under Postecoglou to build on the foundations we have in place.
Foundations that this Season have seen a return to normal on the Domestic front with Celtic fighting for all Silverware, sat on top of the Table with a trophy already in the Cabinet.
It was never about Europe for Celtic this Season.
It’s all been about Champions League money for them however and denying them a straight run at it will prove in the end to be the massive flaw in their reckless approach.
As it was in 2011 when Rangers gambled it all on Champions League revenues.
They’ve done well yes but it hasn’t been without massive risk.
Time will tell if it was worth it or if indeed anything was learned from Rangers in 2012 (In Liquidation).
I think I says a lot about the good works that’s gone on at Celtic this season that Sevco’s best chance of gaining automatic UCL group stage football is by winning the Europa League.
Current odds for that lot to win the Europa: 7-1
Current odds for that lot to win the league: 12-1
I know we shouldn’t be looking at them in relation to ourselves, but I thought this was pretty funny.
West Ham look like the strongest team left in the Europa League.
Was disappointed to see Barca drop out from a selfish point of view.
In all honesty though, TRIFC 2012 have been built to compete in Europe and as lucky as some of their results have been, Gerrard’s picks done them good.
We therefore benefit though as they will now be chucking everything and their gran’s sink at trying to win the Europa.
It would be so good to see a reversal in fortunes ala our Seville season and TRIFC 2012 walk away empty handed and severely skint from this seasons efforts🍀
