Tomorrow night against Real Betis is a “big opportunity” for Albian Ajeti to stake his claim, according to Ange Postecoglou. The Celtic manager only has one option to choose from with his threadbare squad severely lacking in attacking candidates. Kyogo Furuhashi is still out injured whilst new signing Giorgos Giakoumakis is looking to get up…
It’s been said loads of times, you get given chances to play few and far between @ Celtic. Let us hope the number three starts banging them in, or I will be calling for Leigh to come back. A team this big? With only three strikers? Now we’re seeing the real reasons for Dom to leave, the board is not interested in the big world of football? Just cash, cash, and more cash for them. Typical the boardroom is full of Rafael Shyte.
Ajeti needs (in box) service, he’s not the type that will necessarily carve out chances himself.
Hopefully he will get a goal (or two) tonight.
His movement close to the 6 yard box is pretty good, his second goal on the weekend was excellent poacher play, he hid behind his marker until it was time to make a 3-4 yard sprint to get in front & nod it in, you don’t score those unless you’re there first & it’s easier said than done to be on the spot like that, it’s more instinct than training.
He’s not a natural runner but he looks to be trying really hard at that aspect despite it clearly not being his strength, that’s a great sign to me, that he’s willing to put in the hard yards even though it’s not him, I take a huge positive from that, it’s a far better attitude than a certain French bloke who has just left us.
Like you said he needs the ball in the box, ideally between the pen spot & the 6 yard box, he’s scored a decent amount of goals, I’ve not seen many of them but I’m willing to bet most of them were from 8-10 yards, we should put the ball there & see what he does. Real shame Abada won’t there, his delivery & the scraps that come from him running at defenders seem to be the sort of ball Ajeti can feed well off of.
He’s not a wee lad either, he cuts a bit of a figure, he looks to have that mix of short distance speed & just enough muscle to push past defenders at just the right time, every team needs a poacher, I’m hopeful he can be ours.
