It’s not so long ago that people were doubting the credentials of Callum McGregor as the next Celtic captain. Rewind back to the uncertain months of June or July – and Hoops fans everywhere were worried about who would take on the armband. Only the clueless were doubting McGregor because there were more than enough clues to suggest he could and would be up to the task.
1 He’s never intimated openly he wanted to leave Celtic
2 He’s been understudy to our most successful Captain in generations
3 He’s always led by example by averaging more games than anyone
4 He’s been the best Midfielder in Scotland for 3/4 Seasons
5 He reads the game better than most
6 He’s a consummate professional
7 He made one mistake as a youngster and never looked back
If that’s no Captain material then I don’t know what was or is.
I would be the first to admit I never knew he would’ve this good a Captain however.
I never thought he was the type to chase down a player from our biggest rivals shouting “5hitebag” at him.
Never in any doubt though he could lead by example.
Which he has done for years at Celtic.
