Celtic could benefit as rivals potentially plunged into crisis this week

Celtic could benefit from crisis at Rangers, after The Telegraph revealed that Steven Gerrard is interested in the job at Aston Villa. To that end, the Villains will make an official approach for the Rangers boss to replace Dean Smith. Gerrard was named by the Telegraph as the Birmingham club’s top choice, ahead of Southampton…

Firstly, Frank Lampard is far and away a better option for Villa! No buy out clause, experience in the EPL, successful every season, not only because we flopped one season! Potentially long term.
There is no chance of Gerrard going there! One trophy from twelve? Made to look good because we blew it?
Big EBT on the table where he is?
Referees, SPFL and SFA on his side!
No chance he’s going anywhere until Klopp retires! I doubt that Villa would want him over any of the other names mentioned.
It makes zero sense!

A well-connected friend in Melbourne informs me that former Rangers man and current Yokohama F. Marinos boss Kevin Muscat is at the top of the list to replace Steven Gerrard should the latter decide to take the reigns at Villa Park. Muscat replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager at both Yokohama FM and Melbourne Victory.
Muscat’s Melbourne-based manager is in contact with Ibrox. The story should break in the media shortly.
In spite of his reputation as a hard man when playing, Muscat is held in high regard as a manager with a focus on high energy, high pressing, possession-based attacking football.

I don’t understand why Gerrard is held in such high esteem as a manager down south, one trophy in three years, even last year when we were so poor they could not win one of the cups.

If Gerrard stays and Celtic end up winning the league ( we will ) no premier league team will want Gerrard, he will have to drop down to the championship to try and build his reputation. That is why I think if Gerrard is offered the Villa job he will take it.

Valid points. I don’t want him to go either, as I want him there for us to take back our title and place at the top where we belong, thus proving last year was more to do with us imploding, no fans and something that he couldn’t repeat. He’s signed around 50 players to win one trophy in 9 attempts and only had a return of around £3M for the players that have went out. Do you really think Villa would support that?? Additionally, everyone would soon get fed up with his whinging and blaming everyone else when he gets beat…and he will on a regular basis. Keep him here until the end of the is season so Ange can give him a lesson in football management and then let him crawl back home with a true reflection of his talents on display for everyone to see.

Either way, Liverpool won’t touch him, as he’s going to get thumped up here, and be fighting relegation down south. I just want my ounce of blood before he scarpers.

I’d be very surprised if Yokohama F Marinos let two of their managers go in quick succession tbh, but it makes some sense.

It makes even more sense if you consider that their Board have attempted to copy our Boards financial approach to transfer dealings ( buy low ,sell high) and now see the Japanese market as a good place to get players from.
They will know Postecoglou has a list of names he might fancy going for and will want a piece of that action.
Up to now they have failed to replicate our success in player trading but I’ve always maintained that they only have to get one or two deals right in order to press the reset button on the Ayebrokes Loans approach.

Mind you a £50m loss in Season is going to take some amount of dealing unless they unearth the next Messi from nowhere :man_shrugging:t2:

Still to prove he’s got it as a manager. He got to spend money all his recent predecessors didn’t.

Any decent Rangers manager would have taken us last season.

Saying that it would be good to destabilise Rangers a bit especially with 30 million plus available to league winners.
