Celtic Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond has been the subject of media speculation this week. A report from website Football Insider has indicated his role at Lennoxtown is under threat. Hammond arrived at the club in 2019 in the wake of Lee Congerton’s departure. He was tasked with overseeing an overhaul of our scouting…
Hard to know what to think of Hammond cos he’s not been at the club really that long, but the signings in the last video haven’t been a success. So it wouldn’t be a shock if he left.
Job titles can mean anything. Who has the final say in who we actually sign? BR probably had more clout in the boardroom than NL but remember his comment about “a million wingers”?
Aye that was ominous looking back. I’m think a few people probably have a say in who makes Celtic’s signings, probably a few too many
I think it’s by committee generally. Rodgers had pull until it became obvious he was away. Even if he hadn’t moved to Leicester in Feb, he was always going at the end of the season.
As far as I know, the process is:
Targets identified by Hammond dept
Lennon and Lawwell review targets in transfer committee meetings that include senior scouts
Lennon signs off on the pursuit of a player
Lawwell and Michael Nicolson take negotiations further, Lennon might be used to talk directly with player.
From the outside looking in, it feels like steps 1 to 3 go pretty smoothly, then we always seem to mess up part four (Toney, McGinn, others)
