Celtic have proven to be far too reliant on Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor

When Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi picked up his injury with the Japan national team, there were several questions many Hoops fans were asking. Could Ange Postecoglou continue to be as dynamic, exciting, and dangerous going forward without him? Would it set us back and if so, to what degree? Perhaps most importantly of all, however…

Most sides are reliant on certain players who are key to a team playing a certain way.
What doesn’t help is that there is a shortage of players who can play the role McGregor does for Celtic.
The Regista or Deep Lying Playmaker is a complex role with certain requirements than only some players have.
You cannot like for like with McGregor without spending serious money in the market.
Hence why this type of player tends be at a premium.
As for Furuhashi we are missing his movement in attack due mostly to the fact Giakoumakis is t fit and Ajeti is a poacher unable to lead the line like a true lead the line 9 can.
He needs the support of Furuhashi or a Giakoumakis in order to get the best from him.
Most injuries you can cover for or adapt to but losing your key midfielder and the pace amd movement of a player like Furuhashi would deplete most sides.
I say most because there are sides who have no standout players but can operate as a unit well enough to get a result.
Our whole philosophy is built around pace and speed of attack and until those two in particular are back in the fold we will struggle more as a result.
Unless you have the same quality in reserve then it’s obvious your potency as a side will diminish as a result.
As it would anywhere else.
