The dictionary definition of a worthy adversary, Smith won 7 of Rangers’ 9 in a row in the 90s, before stints with Everton and the Scotland national team. He returned to Ibrox in 2007, leading…

Just seen this. Sad news, especially following on the from the update on Wim. He ruined my 1990s & beyond but hey ho, don’t follow football if you want to be happy all the time. You would like to think it would bring the football supporters of the city a little closer together, but I doubt it. Maybe as a mark of respect, 67hailhail and other Celtic forums can take a day off reporting news? Lead by example and all that.

The term Legned is a seldom used term in Football but Walter was and is a true Legned of the game.
Rest in peace Walter ,condolences to his family and friends.

Obviously sad news when someone passes.

He had Tommy Burns in his pocket….

Tommy and some side letters obviously

Think that was Sir David……:-1:

So you think the fact he had a squad full of players they couldn’t afford at his disposal had absolutely no impact on results under him as Manager of Rangers at that time then?

Of course not…… point being made is Sir Dave did the dirty finically stuff. Wattie was the manager who benefited. What manager wouldn’t want half the England team at their disposal?? Especially in a two horse race.

Still don’t understand what Sir Dave got / gets little bad press for the melt down

Definitely without Minty’s input the EBT’s wouldn’t have gotten passed the discussion stage like at Celtic.
However my point is Walter Smith had an unfair advantage over Tommy Burns all through his term as Celtic Manager which basically turned a two horse race into a one horse canter.
Tommy was never in his pocket for there was no room in there next to the side letters.

Understand your point…. Here comes the but….

Tommy, tremendous person, tremendous player, poor manager.

Wattie had him tactically.

Anyway a sad day.
