Former Celtic man Provan reveals backlash from Ryan Christie comments

Former Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has been backed by his Dad after Davie Proven questioned his ambition. Christie moved to Bournemouth late in the transfer window. That lead to some supporters and pundits questioning Christie’s motives, with the Scotland star joining an English Championship side. Davie Provan was one of those. He even called the…

In my humble opinion…Provan is a Fud.
Like many others…The Queen’s shilling has proved too much of a temptation…and so he writes crap…and gets paid for it.
I crossed swords with him many years ago regarding John Collins.
His attitude was arrogant and pompous…He’s never changed.
For what its worth…I think Christie’s choice is the wrong one…but there are bigger things for Provan to "exploit " …but a lack of cojones puts paid to that.

All the best to Ryan. He is obviously using it as back door to the Prem. That’s not rocket science. To call The Championship village green stuff is a joke.

I don’t think any Celtic minded person would argue your thoughts on Provan, as well as other cynics who like to have a dig at the club that made & have given them everything they have & achieved, such as Nicholas, Walker, Commons…you know the ones.

However, I think Christie risks anonymity in the lower realms of English football and would’ve been best served aiming higher. If he doesn’t become a beacon in the Championship, then I could see him doing 5-6 years down south and then back up the road to ICT to finish his career via Aberdeen or Dun Utd for a season or two.

Christie’s Da is the Judy Murray of Scottish football and has put his son on a pedal stool and got it fixed in his mind that he’s better than he is. Lennon enforced this in Ryan when he told him he was his permanent #10. In my humble opinion, Christie never applied the same effort after this and his performance suffered. He also doesn’t have the football brain to keep up with his running, so although he covered lots of ground, he produced little productivity for his efforts.

I truly hope I’m wrong and wish Ryan all the very best, but just think he has been badly advised and has the potential to be so much more than the levels he’s showing and the path he’s chosen.

Tell your auld man to beat it and be your own man. Prove me wrong Ryan

I agree with you re. Christie’s choice…but at the end of the day…its his decision.
(I assume !!).
The main thrust of my post was to “highlight” Provan’s cowardly focus on this subject…instead of writing about the many “dramas” currently associated with Sevco.
There are many topics far more worthy than criticism of Christie…but as I said…a lack of cojones takes care of that.
Hail hail

Charlie never played for the Celtic first-team reserves are as far as he got, ask him? He might have been on the squad list, but never the pitch.

@Allthingsceltic. Our last captain Broony was all over the field chasing the ball b4 he played for Hibs. Ryan was an attacking midfielder when back from Aberdeen, last season he was on the right-wing this season left wing. Do you remember the huge impact he made in the number 10 role, a hell of a lot better than Turnbull’s shoot for the bottom left? Then there’s also last season he can’t score with his back to goal, who can? He used to send the ball above keepers on their line and in the net from 20 yards from back to goal, b4 his injury.

You’re not wrong there mate. Provan and many other pundits & stenographers are ducking a subject which should be an easy slam dunk for any person with any sense of decency. Cowards the lot of them and now the DR have took their foot of the gas as they themselves are under the scope.

Granted that he was played out of position, but back to goal can’t be used as an excuse, as many players find themselves in similar positions, but your better players can read the ball and compensate, which is something Christie couldn’t. As I said, the guy isn’t the worse player, but could be so much better with the right guidance and advice.

i think ryans daddy has had too much say in where he goes and what he does shame really as Ryan has done better at Celtic than his dad did.

No sure what you mean with back to goal Timod, how many times did he put the ball into row z with his back to goal. RC is one of the most greedy Celtic players i have ever seen imho, he also does the same in a Scotland shirt. Just look at his shooting last season. Turnbull will get better, early in his career with us but has a hattrick already this season. RC wanted out and got his move. He wont be remembered as a Celtic great will he?

All I was saying is when listening to the radio they kept saying that, and in his first season they went in so easy with back to goal. We should have sold him to Brendan. After his injury, he couldn’t buy a goal. Every shot did go wide and mostly over as said. But he was trying far too much to get the goals again, just like most of the midfield try passing to the striker. And I’m sure Ryan’s dad and possibly mum were his agent/agents. How many players make that grade with Celtic nowadays, instead of just good players.

I met his father when he was a reserve at Celtic, only a young man. I have watched the games that you say you listen too (all of them) . RC was all about RC last season. His fathers comments about contractual situations didn’t help. FFs he got to captain the mighty Glasgow Celtic this season. He wont be missed IMHO. HH
