After reports suggesting that Celtic could be without key man Kyogo Furuhashi for around a month [Sun], there’s bound to be anxiety amongst supporters. Celtic were creating chances en masse, with several different scorers, sure. Kyogo, though, established himself as the main man. With a goal return of 7 in 9 games, any fears about…
I don’t think the plan is to play Kyogo on the left of a 3 given the fact we actively sought out a natural left winger and had Forrest out there before he was injured.
I see Postecoglou deploying Kyogo behind a main striker which would have been Griffiths had he not made a complete disaster of his personal situation off the field but now Giakoumakis in the 9 role.
He’s a straight replacement ( Kyogo) in terms of Édouard who with all the greatest will in the world has never been a lead the line 9 but rather a glorified number 10 who can and does score goals.
In deploying Kyogo in a free role behind Giakoumakis this negates the need for a 10 and allows Postecoglou to deploy Turnbull and McGregor in Central Midfield pulling the strings.
With the arrival of Carter-Vickers,Juranovic Scales, and the return of Jullien in the near future then increases the possibility of deploying a back 3 and Wingbacks rather than a flat back 4 and wingers also facilitates options in the attack .
I don’t think Postecoglou is a one trick pony like Deila and Rodgers previously in terms of Systems and is open to changing it up if needs be.
Ajeti could also be deployed alongside Giakoumakis in a poaching role with Giakoumakis becoming his supplier so there are options up top to vary the attack.
Scales could well turn out to be a key man for Postecoglou given he can operate in a back 3 on the left side and also carry it if need be as a wingback from that position so again flexibility is there options wise.
We used this successfully with Mulgrew previously under Lennon.
Injuries are going to happen and it appears Postecoglou has been thinking ahead with his signings in this window.
Whilst not ideal losing Kyogo this early and at such a key part of the Season it could well create opportunities for others to come into the reckoning in areas of the Park we haven’t seen yet.
Further to this … Could we see 3 strikers deployed this Season in the attack under Ange at some point?
I wouldn’t rule it out against the cannon fodder in the SPFL
Yep Celtic under Ange are certsinly good at beating cannon fodder as you call them …
Not so good when exiting the champs league or the HUNS …

@Jimmybuoy
I don’t think you can lay all the blame for Champions League failure at his door given the time and effort the Club wasted on Eddie Howe that effectively put our Transfer plans on hold (Howe would have had a list of his own type of targets / players) for weeks if not months as that dragged out.
The Ibrox result could have easily gone the other way had we taken any of the chances we created on the day.
They took their one clear cut chance we didn’t take one from 3 we had.
The Édouard miss was woeful.
He’s more or less come in last minute ,had a squad rebuild to contend with whilst being asked to negotiate a tricky Champions League qualifier during what is effectively our own pre Season
Meanwhile over the river a Club with a settled and apparently better squad also failed to qualify?
