You will far get more out of Turnbull if you stop exposing him in Europe because the simple fact of the matter is he’s not developed enough to play his role in Europe yet at that level.
He’s plenty good enough on the domestic front where let’s face it he’s not coming up against world beaters every week is he?
He’s not at Christie’s level yet so why expect him to deliver Christie levels in Europe?
He showed a naivety against Leverkusen that cost us dearly at a crucial point in the game.
You’re either Cruyff or Bobo in that situation not somewhere in between resembling bambi on ice.
The question has been raised whether McGregor Rogic - Turnbull can operate in the Midfield?
Well to answer that you first have to cast your mind back to a period where McGregor Rogic-Christie were deployed in there and ask where the weak link is?
He will improve no doubt as the ability is clearly there but the step up is clearly a struggle right now.
For me dropping McCarthy or Bitton alongside McGregor in the old Brown- McGregor set up makes much more sense in Europe as you need that extra cover for McGregor and the defence on hand.
Domestically it doesn’t matter as the combination of the 3 we have should be good enough for most teams if not all of them.
