Given the reputations of Celtic players Tom Rogic and David Turnbull, you’d expect – on paper at least – for our midfield to be purring with creativity and goals. Except, it’s just not happening. In several consecutive games, the duo of natural number 10s have been forced together, and it’s just not clicking for either.…
You are right. They are both luxury players. We need McCarthy to play with Sorro and McGregor. In the January window get in a class midfielder. We do not have the players who are good enough to play this way. Support the manager but he has to tweak it a bit.
Think looking at the squad, left back and central midfield are definitely areas we could bulk up.
We need to make use of what we have I know but some of the showings we’ve had so far from the likes of Soro and McCarthy have been nothing short of amateur.
If Turnbull, Rogic and McGregor are our best midfield trio at the minute for us, I’d be using them as much as possible due to our lack of reserves.
From now to Jan should show what kind of shopping list Ange should be putting forward to help us progress again
Not long ago Turnbull was being hailed as the next star at Celtic and all the Celtic bloggers were singing his praises … we have not had a left back at the club since K.T. departed all replacement have been sub standard which results in us exposed every time we play a team who penetrate our left side and when Turnbull has to back track and defend he cant do it
As he is seen as a goal threat or creator of chance around the box it leave huge gaps on our left side when we lose the ball this has happened since he arrived and how those two supposed coaches Kennedy and Strachan cant see this unbalance which has been there for a year sums up the value they have to Ange and the club.
This season it has got even worse since Ange decided to ask two full backs to move inside which has made us even more exposed in wide areas when we lose the ball.
Ralston has worked superbly this season but he is lost inside as is Montgomery when moving inside. Starfelt is happiest when he is marking and why we continue to give him the ball to start moves is crazy.
Rogic will always divide our support but i think he has worked hard under Ange
i don’t want to be Ange bashing but why do we bother to sign Scales who has played in Europe if he cant even get on at 3-0 as we watch Montgomery being run past at ease in the last third of the match.
I still think Turnbull is a fantastic player, by the way, as is Rogic. It’s just that as a partnership, I don’t think they work. Both players are great at taking the ball from midfield and advancing, but we lose a lot defensively with them both on.
i still believe by December we will be the only team in Scotland that can win a treble this season but please don’t build your hopes up guys thinking Sorro or McCarthy are the answer in midfield.
I couldn’t agree more, Turnbull and Rogic together isn’t working. Especially against tough opposition when we have to be sharper off the ball. All the talk of Angeball not working from the jakeballs, I think the one tweak that he should make is with his choice of midfield. In our tougher games, this Sunday included, we should play with two, more defensive capable midfielders because as good as Turnbull can be going forward, he is utter garbage defending. For me he has to start on the bench on Sunday. Dare I say it, Bitton has looked decent when he’s been brought on in midfield. Turnbull and Rogic are excellent No10s and they should be rotated as such.
The best Midfield we had under Rodgers was the McGregor,Rogic-Christie set up we seen when both Brown and Ntcham were out through injury and suspension.
We were transformed into a quick dynamic team from a patient, ball retaining team in an instant.
This points to an issue with one player.
Turnbull.
For me he’s still a player developing and is t anywhere near the level of Christie yet and it’s costing us badly at the higher level in Europe.
Whilst he’s doing a decent job on the Domestic front he’s not quite ready for teams like Leverkusen in my opinion.
The issue Postecoglou has is he wants and requires McGregor to be playing the Regista role so we can get the attacks moving quickly through him but for McGregor to be free to do this he needs to be screened by the two players in front.
Rogic has proved he can do it but as of yet Turnbull hasn’t not in Europe anyway.
This is an issue Ange will need to resolve.
Thats was Murray field against the hearts and it turned our season as one track Rodgers was struggling with 1 up front and two midfielders whose shooting was worse that custer at the little big horn Brown and Ntcham. Yes they transformed the team and Rogic linked well with Forrest too during that spell.
Rogic is like a boat with one oar goes round in circles and we have too many players who can only kick a ball with one foot, scandalous in the modern game and mcgregor can’t tackle, head a ball or play a forward pass so how can anybody look to him as a leader when he can’t lead.
Two out of 3 is not bad Johnny but i think he can pass forward. as for kicking with one foot 100 million for jack gealish and he can kick it with his left foot and cant even beat a player on his left side without falling down. players are paid a fortune today all over the country and very few can do a variety of things and are hailed stars with very limited abilities.
It has to be McCarthy and Sorro in midfield. The wingers coming a little deeper to stat with and making sure that they defend as well as attack. McGregor can work with them and the centre forward well. Ange is a great bloke. I want him to succeed so much but he has to change tactics
It’s time to bin this passing round the back, it’s suicidal. Joe Hart needs to put his laces through it, he had the ball last night at his feet for at least 20 seconds, I was raging, just F’in boot it
You’re gonna be raging all season my man, they’re going to play out from the back, that’s the system the club want to implement which is why they hired a coach who uses that system (cue the wailing & gnashing of teeth from those who see him as a “2nd rate manager” who’s “just here for a cash grab” ).
If we started playing route one style the same folk criticizing now would just turn their criticisms to that style of play as soon as it didn’t fire us to the top of the league instantaneously, some folk are only happy when it rains. We need to stick this out, this is the way….
Spot on and btw route one is another way of saying just give back to them so they can launch another attack.
Route one also only ever works if you have a front man who can not only keep the defenders at bay but also hold it up long enough for the support to arrive.
Somehow I don’t see Furuhashi doing that do you?
Giakoumakis aye but not Kyogo.
I think we will se a bit of mixing it up at times with the odd long ball to get teams turned round when they press high in an attempt to get it back.
That would be the sensible approach and I think Hart is clued up enough to do that.
