Celtic boss Neil Lennon was keeping his cards close to his chest on Friday when asked about the club’s goalkeeping issue. Scott Bain has started each of the club’s last five matches – after summer signing Vasilis Barkas dropped out of the first-team. Barkas has been on the bench for all but one of those…
No wonder that Vasilis has had a drop in confidence. The tactics displayed in front of him were enough to drain anyone of confidence. Lenny insisted in playing three at the back which clearly did not work as the players concerned were not comfortable playing that system. The result of this was that not only our back three but many of the other players were also in positions that they were uncomfortable with. You must put players in positions that they can play at their best in. Lenny has not helped Shane Duffy or any of our defenders, including both goalkeepers. In theory all sorts of systems and tactics can be made to work but cold harsh reality will always find the flaw. We have good players but poor, poor tactics. Play 4 2 3 1 or 4 4 2. This will result in at least four if not five behind the ball when we have to defend. Put players in positions that is their best position. If this
results in a star being left out for a game or two , that must happen. The SPL is of a much higher standard than many say but if you give away goals like we do in the SPl we must not be surprised to get battered in Europe. Players are sure to be worried about the daft school boy tactics they were asked to employ. No wonder there is talk of upset within the ranks. When the opposition have the ball the whole team have to defend, from the center forward back. Not just Shane Duffy and the goalkeeper.
