New 'fresh' Celtic, same old problems: 3 things we learned from dire Livingston draw

Well then. Livingston and Celtic played out an entertaining draw in the snow, but Neil Lennon will be tearing his hair out. The Bhoys could and should’ve won this game, against a side that was resting their best players. The likes of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Jack Fitzwater got game time for David Martindale’s side ahead…

Elyounoussi was very good, and the substitutes were ludicrous

Who is the defensive coach whose job is it to organise the defence who has had responsibility for these tasks going on 10 years and we still cannot defend set pieces !! If we want to finish second we need change now.

I don’t think we have a dedicated defensive coach. John Kennedy is often wrongly labelled as such. Our entire coaching needs a rethink.

Correct me if I am wrong John. Did Ronnie Dehlia not give Jk responibilty for the zonal marking experiment. JK played his football as a defender of which he was highly thought of until injury ended his career. He has been a member of the backroom staff for well over 10 years now and I would guess he would have been used for defensive coaching not offensive coaching. NL is a manager similar to Martin O’Neill in that he is there for motivation and team selection. JK has been one of Peter Lawells projects similar to his player recruitment projects. If Neil lennon goes John Kennedy has to go as well. I would have loved JK to turn out a top class coach for Celtic but he has not learned from his mistakes over the years John.

I don’t doubt he has an input, also wasn’t trying to exonerate him at all. I agree with you, totally. I think my point is Celtic could do with more dedicated coaches.

It doesn’t need to be as absurd as having a throw in coach like Liverpool but I still feel like we are playing catch up from the Brendan Rodgers days.

AFAIK training is still based on the processes from the Rodgers era and Kennedy leads the training sessions. Lennon isn’t very hands on and even less so in his second spell.

Ultimately I don’t think we are driving through the standards set previously.

PL should have used the compensation received from leicester to keep the coaching standards that BR brought to club. Invest in top manager / coach he usually has his own staff and as BR showed good coaches can make good players better unlike our current management team who have the midas touch in reverse. I agree John that celtic need different coaches for different things but they would be better employed at youth and u21 level. At senior level it can become too many chefs in the kitchen scenario.
