Celtic have kickstarted talks over a new contract extension for Greg Taylor, the Daily Record reports. Taylor is still on the initial contract he signed after joining the Parkhead club back in the summer of 2019. His deal expires in the summer of 2023, with Celtic looking to tackle important renewals now that the transfer…
I think the problem with Taylor is he never arrived a wingback from Kilmarnock as he was a traditional fullback with a limited skill set.
There is a world of difference between protecting a defence from an attack with no or little requirement to get up past the halfway line to being asked to run the full length of the Park ,defend your own box and supply crosses into the box at the other end for 90 minutes whilst on the overlap.
This takes a whole different skill set for a player to develop.
Taylor has clearly struggled with that transition at times.
That is not to say he can’t defend because he can but what it means is he has far more physical demands in order for him to do the job of a wingback.
It is perhaps the most physically demanding job on the Park bar that of a box to box Midfielder which in the modern game are now a rarity rather than the norm.
