Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has explained his 2016 Parkhead exit as he stated he was given “nowhere near” the budget Brendan Rodgers was gifted. Deila left the Hoops just under 6 years ago after a 2-season career in charge. Celtic managed to win 2 titles in that period as well as progress into the…

Operating Expenses had increased by 33.3% in 2017 from £57.1m (2016 Annual Accounts) to £76.3m then up by a further 14.1% in 2018 to £87.1m.( 2018 Annual Accounts).

The likes of Sinclair ,Dembele,Édouard etc were on a totally different level than the targets we had previously went for and both Deila and Lennon (after his early success in Europe) were victims of the buy to sell policy invoked by Lawwell in the past decade.
Brendan was afforded both the spending and maintaining of his side after Deila had done the groundwork of changing both the system and approach at Celtic over the short period he was here.

Deila also had to contend with a clique of older players in the dressing room used to the Management style of Lenny previously.
The likes of Brown,Mulgrew and Commons didn’t take too readily to this relatively unknown from Norway coming in and asking them to up their work rate.
Other players responded well probably none more so than Griffiths who managed to hit 40 goals in a Season as a lone striker a feat not achieved since the great Larsson departed.(a feat not replicated since despite the upgrades in players).
The high press 4-2-3-1 was Deilas answer to moving the Club forward and whilst Rodgers initially dabbled with the idea of going back to a strike pairing up top he quickly reverted back after realising both Griffiths and Dembele were too similar and simply didn’t work.
Rodgers more or less stuck with 4-2-3-1 but went for a more possession based game and ball retention rather than pressing high and playing on the front foot.
He definitely had better quality targets coming in as Fulham had knocked back Spurs offer of £6m for Dembele in the January and decided to go with Celtics £500k offer and retaining him for the remainder of the Season.

Rodgers was by given way more backing by the Board.
The numbers don’t lie.
