So as we creep into Monday evening, there’s still no announcement as of yet regarding the future of Neil Lennon as supporters undoubtedly keep refreshing their phones. Many of us are expecting something today regarding what the future holds for the manager. Perhaps it’ll be his exit, perhaps it’ll be a vote of confidence from…
Neil Lennon’s career at celtic football club has been one of legend. As a footballer playing in his defensive midfield role he had few peers. As a manager he had good fortune on his side to be in the right place at the right time twice. He is a manager with limited ability coaching. He is more of your Martin O’Neill old school type. During his first spell in charge he won 3 out of 4 titles(2 without rangers) 2 out of 8 domestic cups and qualified for 2 champions league group stages( one last 16). His stock was high in 2014 so he went south looking for better financial rewards. His record from 2014 until he left hibs in january 2019 was mediocre at best. Since returning to celtic he has done a decent job winning two titles (one shared with BR ) two cups with a possible third in coming weeks (is this why he is still manager with promise of resignation after cup final) but being the wealthiest club in scotland with the biggest wage bill that’s the least expected of him(not withstanding the two champs league qualifying shambles). BR brought a modern coaching regime to celtic players performances improved vastly and since BR has left players performance has regressed very badly to an extent celtic football club is now a club being laughed at. Neil Lennon is no different from Ronnie Dehlia if you can’t produce results you have to go LEGEND OR NOT.
Totally agree Stephen,
I would also reply to this by saying that Lennon wouldn’t have gotten the job if his name wasn’t Neil Lennon. His record since leaving Celtic had been atrocious, and this is exactly what many who didn’t want him in to begin with feared. He’s been a superb servant to Celtic, but we shouldn’t have to justify why we want an alternative in now. It’s down to those who want him to stay to persuade the rest of the fans as to why that should be the case. This is nowhere near good enough.
We have all heard the conspiracy theory that Neill orchestrated his removal from hibs post because PL had told him BR was leaving. Now we are at a stage were we are wondering if PL and NL are waiting to announce Nl resignation after cup final. I just hope its with the wait David.
You know Stephen I could honestly see the moral argument behind that. This is, after all, Lennon’s treble and in an ideal world he would be given the time to see it out. However, I just don’t think we should risk more poor league results just so Neil can get his hands on the Scottish Cup.
PL was probably thinking celtics games before cup final were sure fire wins but after Sunday’s result I fear the worst like you David.
Well to be honest mate so was I!! I didn’t think we were capable of losing games like those. Yesterday was a new low for us unfortunately. Gutted with how it’s all turning out.
