Scott Robertson's Celtic situation grows more baffling; time to play youngsters or loan them

The situation regarding Celtic youngsters such as the recently recalled from loan Scott Robertson grew more baffling last night. Neil Lennon’s team announcement didn’t include many of the youngsters that came into the equation during last week’s self-isolation farce. You’d expect that. However, having specifically brought Robertson back to the club from a successful spell…

I get the idea of gradual integration. It’s important to keep youth players’ feet on the ground, especially when they’re bursting onto the scene. But for goodness sake, what are you actually supposed to do as a youth or even a fringe player at Celtic to get regular game-time? Clearly impressing on the park isn’t the only box you need to tick. Some will say that we don’t get to see what happens in training and that’s something I totally understand too. But are we to believe Duffy is absolutely bossing it in training whilst the likes of Welsh and Robertson are struggling? Only for that to be totally reversed come an actual matchday?

Welsh has done nothing to deserve being dropped so often. Time to bring him back in and get him more used to first-team minutes. Especially ahead of next season.
