I’ve just read online that Boli Bolingoli may return to Celtic within the next few days after Fifa allowed Foreign players to terminate their contract’s if they are playing for a Russian team.
If he does return to Celtic, should we give him another chance?. OK, he made a stupid mistake by going abroad to see his Girlfriend during lockdown, but we all make mistakes don’t we, I know I have, and I’m sure you have as well.
Should we be magnanimous and let him show us what he can do?.
Even if it’s just for him to come on as a sub if the game has been secured?, because let’s face it, NL never really gave him much game time.
UPDATE—BB has returned to Celtic, if the reports in the media are correct, so now what, he has a contract until 2023 as far as I’m aware.
So do we let him draw his salary until then or just call it a day, cancel his contract and ship him out.
I would be interested to hear your thought’s on this.
Wouldn’t it be great to win the league with a couple of games to go!
In that instance I’d chuck him right in for any remaining games and rub it right in that we’ve won the league and even our “outcasts” can get a game.
Put him on penalty duty to put the cherry on top and give him a memorable fairwell
No, he humiliated the club with arrogance and total disregard for anyone’s safety, a modern day entitled footballer I don’t care if we get £50 for him he should never wear the Hoops again
Forget his trip to Spain remember his on field performances hes not good enough a bomb scare like Boyotta was not to be trusted on or ff the park. bye bye if any takers ?
If I remember rightly, that’s exactly what we were saying about Starfelt, but it looks like he’s coming good now. Unless a player gets game time, His performances are going to be shaky. Playing time gives a player confidence, gets him more in tune with his teammates and only then will his performances improve.
At the time I wasn’t to happy with his exploits, but there were one or two others didn’t cover themselves in glory either.
That was then, this is now, have they got anything to lose by giving him another shot? Under the right circumstances of course?
Your right of course, at this juncture of the season I can’t see AP bringing him into the team, as you so rightly pointed out there is too much to lose.
But perhaps he might get a run out with the B team possibly, when I say run out I mean brought on as a late sub, perhaps.
I think he’s been made a scapegoat for a lot of what went wrong last season and that’s totally unfair on the player, having said that he put the health of everyone at the club in jeopardy because of his own selfishness and wanting to see his girlfriend. The outcome could’ve been totally different players and staff could’ve taken the virus home to loved one’s and for that reason alone he should be shown the door, people could’ve lost their lives and that’s unforgivable in my book.
You’re absolutely right, that was something I hadn’t even considered when I wrote my post, It’s certainly a very good reason as to why he should never set foot in Celtic park ever again.
Complete U-turn from me.
I’m not so sure about the unforgiving nature of a lot of the comments- does this mean that there is no such thing as redemption, ever? As you said, everyone makes mistakes & even though his was a grave one, does that mean he should pay for it for the rest of his life/career?
My instinct is to give him a 2nd chance as long as he has given a clear indication that he’s genuinely sorry & realised the gravity of his actions. As you also say every player needs playing time to get confidence & up to speed with his fellow players. As I recall, he was doing ok when he got a run in the team & lets face it, we don’t exactly have an abundance of left backs - Taylor certainly needs competition for his place.
Defenders come in for much undue criticism - they only need to make one error & the team can pay a heavy price whereas attacking midfielders & strikers make as many, if not more, in missed chances & don’t come in for anything near the same criticsm.
As for Bolingoli, it may be all academic now anyway as the Club don’t seem to have forgiven him & look intent on getting shot of him.
Right now we don’t need any sideshows imho, and this is one of those. Focus on the squad as is. Both Hatate and Maeda are in the Japan squad for later this month, that’s enough of an issue to be going on with. We are so close to something incredibly special and potentially financially destroying the Govan mob, so let’s just focus.
Hail Hail
You’re right, the last thing we need right now is any unnecessary distractions at this crucial time in our season, but this is a very minor distraction in the grand scheme of things.
Another way of looking at BB’s situation is that it’s not going to affect the team or the club, we are too strong as a team and club to let his situation affect us, on or off the field.
