When clubs appoint a manager, it’s ideal that they’re pushed as the number one candidate for the job – Ange Postecoglou won’t have that at Celtic. Indeed, Yokohama Marinos manager Postecoglou is reportedly due to be confirmed as the new Celtic manager early this week [BBC]. However, it comes only after a long drawn-out saga…
I don’t want him at the club plain and simple,
The situation with Howe is an absolute shambles but watching the guy speak about his philosophy and his teams is actually getting me excited. The man has proper passion for the game and I think given some time to implement his ideas he could be a success. I just fear that if he doesn’t hit the ground running fans will turn on him.
There’s no guarantee that any manager will be a success though. Yes we were all excited about the prospect of Eddie Howe coming to the club, but even then there were no certainties. I think a bit of research into Postecoglou has made me change my mind on him a touch. He’s absolutely a tougher sell than Howe given Celtic fans generally know nothing about him. But he deserves a chance even if we don’t agree with the appointment. I’ve got a wee feeling he’ll surprise a few people. Is that my bias talking? Maybe, but why look at everything with a doom and gloom perspective? Football’s about enjoyment and we’re getting big change at the club this summer. There’s an element of excitement in that, regardless of who the new manager is.
I agree with that. I live in Switzerland and appointments in German speaking countries tend to be very left-field. My local club YB for example seem to pull a rabbit out of their hat every time and guess what? They succeed and the managers move on to the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt or Leverkusen eventually (Adi Hütter, Gerardo Seoane) with the sporting model continuing successfully thanks to a clear structure and a sporting director who knows the club inside out in place.
Absolutely. I think too many are linking unknown managers to automatic failure. That’s nowhere near the case. Let’s see what Postecoglou brings to the table.
I have no problem with Postecoglou getting the job but I will have a problem if Kennedy is appointed his no 2. If this is the case we the fans have been taken for mugs by the club and what has happened over the last few months shows that Lawwell is a cancer within the the club.
Warburton’s bread was rubbish at the start, but the manager with the same name was completely rubbish, but we Celtic supporters loved him. so why don’t we give this guy time and a good amount of players with him? And no midfielders, just wingers thanks.
