Bringing in another WINGBACK was always going to be the plan going forward under Ange as it gives him full flexibility in regards tactics within his preferred 4-3-3 set up.
Scales was given a chance but I don’t think he was ready for the step up quite yet at Celtic.
Taylor isn’t a Wingback ( he’s struggled to operate as one ) so weve been a bit hamstrung on the left side occasionally opting to put Jura in there to maintain a valid threat going forward.
Now we have flexibility in terms of what we can do depending on opposition .
Taylor and Ralston are the strongest options in a defensive setup where we face tougher opponents who will dominate possession in the Champions League where as both Juranovic and Bernabie will be far more effective getting forward in a more aggressive setup.
Having two wingbacks also enables Ange to shake things up in attack as it negates the need for two wide players up front as both can come inside in Support of the main Striker without having to alter personnel during games.
The shape can be maintained and more fluid in effect as one wingback comes forward either on the inside as an inverted FB or goes on the outside to deliver a cross or go on the overlap this will enable the attacker to also move inside or out creating issues for defenders hoping to pick them up.
I think we will see far more variation within the Setup now another Wingback is ( hopefully) secured.
The boy looks a real danger coming forward.
