As Celtic gear up for another European test, there’ll be plenty of scrutiny on Ange’s team selection, and a defensive pairing of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers, who have been impenetrable domestically. Our European record, in terms of the defence, hasn’t exactly been amazing. Granted, it incrementally improved, but conceding 8 goals over our first…
“Evidence suggests Starfelt is elite with his passing” LOL!
I’m sure Joe Hart would agree with you mate. He has nightmares about the next dithering, under-hit pass being played across his goal line, while an opposition striker rushes towards him.
The passing has been a little less squeaky bum in the last month. Someone has told him he can actually take a few strides forward and make a better angle before passing. We might see if he has really improved against the Norwegians. They will surely have watched the videos.
Most of the goals Celtic have conceded this season, Starfelt has been the cause, or the partial cause. Either through slack passing, or through lack of ability to defend when the ball in the air. Basically for any set-pieces, if the ball doesn’t fall into CCV’s zone, it’s going in the net.
Starfelt gets stuck in and defends pretty well when the ball is on the deck. But if Julien can get back to fitness and form, the jersey is surely his.
Not sure what games you’ve been watching because everything you’ve said about Starfelt is nonsense.
Ange will make the right choice of who is to be our top centre back pairing. A good deal of the problems we have when defending is the failure of the wide players to think like defenders when we do not have the ball. They are inexperienced and can get shown up. The goals we gave away against Aberdeen were shocking. We have not been playing well lately apart from the Rangers game when we were unbelievably good. As a team we lack height which is a disadvantage defending set pieces. The team has to remember that when we do not have the ball everyone is a defender.
He struggles to cope with a big Striker ,isn’t composed under pressure and had a tendency to panic pass rather than pick a pass to the right man at the right time.
He has improved marginally over the past month but I don’t personally see why we spent £4m on him at this point
A fully fit and functional Jullien is a much better option going off the past 6 months showing in my opinion.
At least he adds a threat at the other end on set pieces.
Can you tell me his pushing players stats please Euan and how many silly fouls he gives away pushing opponents. Stats can be a nonsense 1 quality Hatate forward pass that results in a goal is far better than 20 passes of 3-5yards square.
I am not knocking Starfelt as a player or his efforts more your method of judgement.
