There’s been a lot that Ange Postecoglou has gotten right for Celtic in 2022, but one of the underrated aspects is undoubtedly how he’s used the new 5-sub rule. Last season under Neil Lennon and latterly John Kennedy, Celtic fans were left extremely frustrated by our usage of substitutions. The management team would either wait…
The 5 sub rule is perfect for us at the moment because we have at least two trusted players in every position, so substitutions can be made without lowering the quality on the pitch. Last year we barely had a squad of 11 trusted players. If Edouard was having one of his off days, who could we bring on to improve the quality up front?
The job Ange has done in that respect is quite remarkable.
The 5 sub rule worked entirely in our favour this Season as bedding in 14 new players into a system and approach that requires extreme levels fitness to keep up for 90 minutes whilst we suffered injuries to the squad throughout.
Had it not been for that change in ruling I doubt we would have seen us 6 points clear with 4 games left.
Ange has capitalised on it big time.
Next Summer we see a settled side with terrific baseline fitness levels go into the Season with perhaps just 2 or 3 new faces needing to catch up to their levels.
Unless of course his targets like Maeda and Co are already at that level on arrival
