It is fair to say that it has mostly been an enjoyable season on the park watching this Celtic side after Ange Postecoglou’s incredible summer turnaround. The former Socceroos boss has delivered the Premier Sports cup trophy and has the Hoops currently sitting with a six-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership. There…
Whilst Ange has been dealt a few rough hands with injuries this Season you do have to factor in that the type of football he is demanding from the players is in itself very demanding on the players bodies.
This is why we signed so many of them in both windows as he knows all too well the transition from a more laxed approach to games ie less pressing and less constant high energy output was always going to be plagued with issues as players unaccustomed to such demands adapted to them.
No shocks here when it happens.
This is why it is important that when players do return from long term injuries and are being declared 100% fit again (as has been the case with Jullien) they should be getting game time in the first team as and when possible.
Should Carter Vickers or Starfelt pull up for example then we could have problems having not bedded Jullien back into the side meanwhile.
I personally don’t think having Jullien run around in what is effectively an Under 20’s game in the lower Leagues against substandard opposition (where the potential for a late or poor tackle is multiplied) is going to get him anywhere near the levels needed for Postecoglou’s free flowing attacking Celtic in the top flight.
So whilst Ange has suffered bad luck on the injury front he’s also not helping himself or the situation by taking added risks.
Kyogo was a risk and it cost us 3 months of his services.
He learnt from that and has protected Giakoumakis as a result.
Surely when 3,4,and 5 nil up and cruising to a win an opportunity to reintroduce a Jullien or Forrest is a better option than not?
I’ve said it elsewhere,I sincerely hope that decision does not come back to bite us or Ange on the run in.
