Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on James Forrest after the player’s most recent setback. The Hoops confirmed that Forrest was staying in Scotland after being identified as a close contact of a positive Covid case. The Daily Record then reported that he’s also being treated for a mysterious injury. Whatever the case,…

Bottom line is we are short of a serviceble winger, striiker, one midfielder, right back, goalie, and central defender. For the remaining friendlies before the CL game – only 11 days away – I would persevere with Bargas on the basis of his previous non-diddy status, with Bain an okay (no more than that) back-up; Ange must see whether Ajer, greedy Eddie and Christie shape up commitment-wise. That would still leave a couple of gaps.
The youngsters did okay against Sheff Wed but that is medium to long-term. Recruits need time to bed in. So it’s hard to imagine a Hoops XI inspiring much confidence for July 20. It’s not Ange’s fault but most of us are resigned to the customary CL qualifying exit.
The CL Group £30m was always coveted by Lawwell and Desmond but not enough to give whichever manager (not even Brendan) the tools to do the job of getting that bonus.
Apologists say they didn’t want to recruit without Ange’s say-so, but do you think he would have complained if Hickey or Baldock were already signed? Of course not, especially when so many of those already on the payroll that he is stuck with are obviously below Celtic standard.
