Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer is not a “top defender”, claims former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie. McAvennie, who regularly features on Open Goal, told Football Insider he was impressed by youngster Stephen Welsh. Is Kris Ajer a “top” defender? Is he vocal enough? What’s your take on McAvennie’s views?
I really like Ajer as a player and do believe he’ll go on and have a big future in the game in a better league.
For him to be elite he needs to improve his abilities in the air. For me he’s not dominant enough in this area given his stature and is the big weak point of his game. That is assuming he continues to play at centre half.
I’ve thought this for a long time. He’s a good player and I’d like him to stay as we are not currently blessed in defence. Given he only turned to central defence role late in his development means he’s not a natural centre back. He doesn’t jump and doesn’t head the ball. When put together with Bitton the issue is doubled. Duffy was meant to do this bit but unfortunately the other parts of his game also leave us exposed. If you need a plumber don’t hire an electrician
easy answer No ,he is not a top defender,
wants to be in midfield, goes forward leaving gaps, cant head a ball
has pace and can time a tackle .
will never develop into a top defender at Celtic, who will develop him…not DUFFY
