Jackie McNamara has told 67HailHail that he doesn’t believe Kristoffer Ajer will want to be Celtic’s permanent new right-back. The Hoops are reportedly on the lookout for a new right-back to allow Hatem Elhamed to depart in January (Scottish Sun). Should the Israeli depart, Jeremie Frimpong would be our only natural replacement. But in the…
David, you have to remember he’s useless as a centre-half far too many mistakes. One of the 67 guys said it perfectly the other day there if he makes a mistake out on the right there’s a central defender there to mop up for him. However, in central defence, there’s no one who can help him really or words to that effect. Also, we have to remember he’s really an attacking midfielder hence why he’s doing so well going forward. Hopefully, he enjoys it so much he’ll want to stay there and save our own hearts when an attacker or cross comes near him.
Yeah that was myself that brought up that point mate about him making mistakes and them not being as costly at right-back. However, I think the problem here is something Jackie said - would the player actually be willing to play there for the long-term? Especially considering he’s made his name at centre-back and plays there for Norway. Back in the day you would play wherever your manager told you, but player power is ridiculously out of control now. And given Ajer’s contract situation, I think it could be within his power to force through a change back to centre-half if he wanted it. For what it’s worth, I would definitely 100% keep him at right-back just now!
Thanks for that info David, Ajer might have scored the winning goal but we need a new central defence completely. Get rid of those three clowns asap or good bye to anything this year, if yesterday is anything to go by. The clowns in the center and right back goodbye in January. Ajer was good going forward as in all his games for a midfielder playing defender. But when they crossed into box or free kicks what a joke they three are.
