Aberdeen star Jonny Hayes has been speaking about the tactics used to put pressure on Celtic on Sunday, after the Bhoys picked up a narrow victory. Jota’s crucial late goal was enough to secure a 2-1 win for Ange Postecoglou’s team, but Aberdeen were competitive in the match for much of the 90 minutes. Typically,…

And the obvious answer to that tactic is to have a deep lying playmaker in front of the back four thus creating an outlet to a player who is not only comfortable receiving a ball under pressure but can also pick the pass that instantly gets the team high on the press turned around and caught behind the ball.
As we seen for 72 minutes having a defensive mid in there (Bitton) gave the defence no out ball and as a result we were forced into playing it across the back (dodgy with our defence ) or Joe Hart is forced to lump it to the wings (having no recognised lead the line No9-Giakoumakis up the middle who can take it in and retain it) where unfortunately that meant by passing the two in Midfield.
On the 72nd minute Bitton was replaced by Rogic and McGregor drops into that role (The Regista) and instantly we had an out ball which meant the midfield was linking up again with the attack which we were so badly missing up until that point.

Which now begs the question: Why remove McGregor from that key role in the first place?
Bitton could have been dropped in alongside McGregor in the old Brown role as his cover or alternatively he could have been deployed in front as a screen.
Bitton has proved he can pick a pass from an advanced position in Midfield as can McCarthy and Soro.

Cyan, can I suggest Pat Crerand? he’s only 82 but I’m pretty sure his distribution and pin-point passing is as good as anyone we have at the moment.

 John
We have McGregor his ability is plenty good enough.

Aw Johnny you forgot to mention mad madden and his great ability to penalise our every attempt at winning the ball back and stopping the game at every chance. P.s. I see uefa have opened an investigation into the hun game in Prague, so maybe they will have a look at the (racist) booing of kyogo. :joy:
