Kyogo delivers but Bhoys look brittle: 3 things we learned from AZ v Celtic

Celtic made life extremely difficult for themselves against AZ Alkmaar. An early 1-0 lead, 3-0 on aggregate, very quickly turned into a needlessly nervous night in the Netherlands. It was typical away stuff in Europe for the Bhoys; anxious defending, sloppy mistakes and a lack of confidence. For the first time, we saw an unconvincing…

We go through but we looked less than solid at CB, I thought Montgomery did well, needs to hit the weight room, were very leggy from chasing the ball by the end there but Christie was busting a gut all over the park.

As much as it pays to be gracious in both victory & defeat I’ve got to say those Alkmaar boys are a bunch greeting w**kers, some world class complaining & arm waving going on. I hope they enjoy the conference league…

I keep asking this question who is the defence coach and why r we keeping him as he’s not doing his job it’s been like that 4 years ,and is Ange Postecoglou another yes man 4 the board or will he walk if he doesn’t get his own people in soon.

We dodged a bullet in Holland tonight against better quality opposition and it highlighted the problems we have, but we are thro to the group stage and that is a step forward - there is still a lot of work to be done. Another game under the belt, have faith it’s still early doors.

I stated last week that Starfelt will never make a footballer. Who scouted him? I presume it was the same person who scouted Duffy, Ajeti and Barkas. He is nowhere near good enough and please don’t give me this confidence crap. Good players are always good players. Starfelt is not and never will be. I just hope Scales is decent.

Same defensive problems since Gordon Strachan left in 2009 (some would say since Tommy Burns time). How long is it going to take to boot JK backside out the door because he is the one constant in all the kamikaze defending over the last 10 years. As for Joe Hart he is not the goalkeeper to have behind a dodgy defence. Starfelt would be better off appearing in a Bond movie. We are in for a roller coaster season THE BIG QUESTION IS CAN OUR ATTACKERS SCORE MORE THAN OUR DEFENCE CONCEEDS .

No denying that was a terrible own goal for Starfelt to concede but he made some very crucial clearances and tackles.

He has made errors in EVERY game he has played. Not good enough

The same person who watches players on youtube videos, and thinks he’s good enough for Celtic.

Winning convincingly each is week is not necessarily a good thing, as this game showed. It was hard fought together with a good result, nerves and mistakes. Everything you’d expect in a game. European games are always a step up in level and the Bhoys have now some more experience in the ongoing building process of how they need to play. Singling out players is not constructive because they are not machines. One needs to make mistakes so as to learn. I’m sure AP will show them analysis and reinforce what he wants. They can only get better. I freekin love this team even with all their short comings. Bring on the … I just can’t say it without being derogatory.

Joe Hart is into his 30’s his learning period is well over. As for Starfelt I fear the worse but hope he proves me wrong. AP needs his own backroom staff he if gets them you will probably see massive improvement in the teams performances. There has been improvement already but after last seasons performances that was to be expected.

Some of the players still need some time to gell into a cohesive unit. That takes time. Hart and Starfelt in their defence have come in later than most of the others. Give them time.

AZ represented a tough tie. For 30 minutes plus they physically dominated us.

The annoying thing for me was the goal gifts we provided them.

Let’s hope for a clean bill of health for the players as this was a bruising physical battle.

Onward to Sunday…HH

They had some beef in midfield, bunch of bully boys, & the ref seemed very timid to blow his whistle against them for a good hour or so.
They started bitching at the ref & each other when they realized we wouldn’t roll over for them though, I enjoyed that particular part the most I think
