Now that Rangers dropped points against St Mirren, it means that we go into the next match with the aforementioned on the 2nd of Jan either 12 points clear or possibly even 15 points clear if Motherwell beat them, and we win against St Johnstone. What a great position to be in going into the new year.
I’m absolutely sure that BR advice to the team is, do not get complacent, as leads can slip very quickly if you take your eyes off the ball.
I can’t see that happening, though, this team is far too focused to let that happen.
To be honest, I can’t remember us being so far ahead, not only on points but also on goal difference, going into the new year, can you remember the last time we were in this position?
Because of the league positions now (TRIFC 2012 now into 2nd), it’s unfortunate we have to keep a slight eye on them solely due to them being our closest competitors.
I’m hoping Rodgers will be maintaining humility in the dressing room no matter what the difference between the top 2 teams is. The last thing we need is to be shouting our mouths off and boasting wilfully before a few key injuries or a player sale affects our momentum giving others hope.
Like you said though, highly unlikely based on the quality we do have as well as the united focus between the guys.
It is great to see our rivals struggle against other teams, but it’s been said millions of times, it’s what you do in the big derby matches that counts. Let’s hope we show up at our newest Glasgow rivals and take 3 comfortable points. Being selfish I’d love to see us triumph by at least 2 clear goals and keep a clean sheet
To be honest Jeemo all the pressure is on them, because if they lose there is no coming back from 15 points behind.
On the other hand, if we lose, we are still at least 9 clear.
The other scenario is, If we beat St Johnstone and Rangers lose at Motherwell, the gap is then 15, and if we beat them at Ibrox on Jan the 2nd the gap would stretch to 18 points.
As far as the outcome of derby matches being important, I agree, but surely that only applies if the league is tight, and the outcome could affect the league.
On Jan the 2nd the outcome won’t affect the league standings at this moment in time.
