Rivals have burned through £100m catching up to Celtic; now Bhoys can deliver knockout blow

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson made a curious boast this week on The Athletic Football Podcast, sharing that investors had burned through the guts of £100m to catch up to Celtic. He said it almost as a point of pride, yet I don’t particularly see the upside of spending that much money to win one…

Our fans would do the same for our club.

They got lucky last year with no fans to shout them down.

Let’s hope there’s no COVID restrictions when they come to us in Feb and we can actually draw blood.

They are well overdue being put in their place, let’s start it ASAP :four_leaf_clover:

Sorry they never got lucky, we downsized and let ceo and the likes fill their own pockets we could have and should have gave them the killer blow then but opted for the blue pound. Celtic kept a form of rangers alive no one else.

Spot on.
Though it is still a fact they had to pump £100m in to claim victory.
That’s a serious overspend in a Country where Football does not offer massive cash prizes.

Desperate verging on reckless.

Pray tell! Just how does a twelve year old club/organization with one solitary title “catch up” with a 134 year old club the magnitude of Celtic, dripping in unprecedented glory and successes?
That can’t be achieved!

Fairly straightforward economics.
A Stadium that holds 50,000 ,a fanbase willing to fill it and idiots willing to part with their hard earned in order to breach the gap.
Celtic despite being the biggest and richest Club in Scotland do not buy top end players so any Club with enough backing (financially and support wise) could effectively catch us by buying in talent good enough to beat every other side and ultimately us.
For example had a billionaire rolled into Aberdeen with McInnes in charge and pumped £20m every Season it’s not unreasonable to think they might well have stopped the 9 in a row we sauntered to.
Gretna managed to go from Pub League side to the UEFA Cup in 5 Seasons spending a fraction of what the Tribute Act have and with a minimal paying following.
If a Billionaire wanted to shake up Scottish Football he could easily do it from a Club like Hearts,Hibs or Aberdeen.
Just a matter of how much money he wanted to lose doing it.
Enough Money+Right Manager+Decent Transfer Policy = Success
