It’s gone a touch under-recognised by the mainstream media, but the performance of Josip Juranovic for Celtic against St Johnstone yesterday certainly didn’t escape the supporters’ attention. Juranovic was once again playing out of position at left-back in Ange Postecoglou’s team. That’s despite a fortnight of impressing down his more natural right side with Croatia.…
He’s not the first and won’t be the last fullback to be able to play on either side but to suggest he’s out of position is a bit of a stretch because ultimately he’s still playing the same role albeit on the opposite wing.
Same demands on the player apply for both sides it’s just a matter of whether they can adapt or as is the case with some they are two footed and are as strong on either foot.
Juranovic is a superior right back and it will be interesting to see what happens when the likes of Taylor get back up to speed whether Ange changes things on the right or sticks with Ralston short term given his current form?
Having two decent/solid options in all positions is advantageous going forward but having a quality operator in Juranovic who can also play on either side now negates any need to go looking for another left back.
I would expect one to be moved on in January most likely Bolingoli.
