The strange Celtic handling of Scott Robertson this week

It’d be fascinating to know what Scott Robertson thinks of his return to Celtic this week. Enjoying a successful spell on loan at English League One side Gillingham, Robertson was hastily called up the road in the wake of the Dubai debacle. The squad had been decimated by self-isolation and Neil Lennon needed more options…

It’s unfathomable that he wasn’t involved…or knowing celtic this season maybe it wasn’t

Totally agree that bringing Robertson back mid way through a successful loan is bizarre.
Midfield is the one area we’re still reasonably strong in, so I’d be surprised if he gets more than a handful of fleeting appearances.

Meanwhile, the defence remains ridiculously fragile and understrength.

He might be playing in a deeper role now than he was for last few seasons but he was top scorer two seasons running at 17s and 18s. Not top level right enough but maybe describing him as not the most attack minded player, isn’t completely accurate?

Maybe he could play in that role in the future. Thanks for your comment and welcome to the forum!

A fair point Gilbert. Will be interesting to see where he is actually utilised going forward.

In fact for the Reserves over the past couople of seasons, he has played 6, 8, 10, 7 and 11. Has his best position been identified yet?

I was curious so had a look at where he’d been starting at Gillingham and it seemed to be as one of the sitting midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3.

Though I think when he was coming off the bench he was tasked with driving forward.

He played one of the games at left mid.

He is far more effective as a No 8 than a No 6
